Connect AI tools

Connect FocusPilot to AI assistants

Use your tasks, goals, notes and plans from ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Cursor and other AI tools, with you in control of what they can do.

What connecting does

FocusPilot has a built-in MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that AI apps use to work with other services. Once you connect an AI app, you can ask it about your FocusPilot workspace and have it make changes for you, without copying anything between windows.

For example: "What's overdue and what should I do first?", "Turn these meeting notes into tasks for this week", or "Plan my afternoon around my two most important tasks."

Pick your app

Each app has its own step-by-step guide:

The connection address

Every app asks for the same server address. Copy it from here:

FocusPilot MCP server
https://focuspilot.online/api/mcp

Two ways to sign in

Sign in with FocusPilot (recommended). The app opens a FocusPilot page where you sign in and choose what it may do: Read and make changes, or Read only. Nothing to copy or paste, and the app renews its access on its own. ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and VS Code all support this.

MCP token. Some tools are set up with a config file instead. For those, create a token in FocusPilot and paste it into the tool's settings. Tokens let you choose permissions area by area (for example, tasks but not finance).

Create an MCP token

  1. 1Open Settings → Modules and turn on Developers.
  2. 2Open Developers from the sidebar and go to MCP tokens.
  3. 3Select Create, give the token a name (such as the app it's for), choose its permissions, and optionally set an expiry.
  4. 4Copy the token. It starts with fpm_ and is shown only once, so paste it into your app straight away.

MCP tokens (fpm_) and REST API keys (fpk_) are different. An API key won't work with the MCP server, and an MCP token won't work with the REST API.

What a connected assistant can do

  • Tasks and planning: list, add, update and complete tasks, run Plan my day, set today's top 3 and put work on your calendar.
  • Goals, habits and wellbeing: check progress, log milestones, mark habits, record energy, mood and sleep.
  • Notes, checklists, reminders and bookmarks: search, create and update them.
  • Analytics: answer questions about your focus time, completed work and trends.
  • Finance, Trading and Bookings: only while those modules are turned on.
  • Help: search this help center to explain how FocusPilot works.

An assistant only sees the tools its access allows. With Read only access, or with a module turned off, those tools simply don't exist for it.

Stay in control

  • Your approval comes first: ChatGPT, Claude and the coding tools ask before running actions that change your data. Read each request before you approve it.
  • Choose Read only when you only want answers and analysis.
  • A connection can only reach your own workspace. Other people's data is never visible to it.
  • Ask the assistant to propose changes first and apply them after you agree, especially for deletions and bulk edits.
  • AI can misread a request. Check dates, amounts and anything it deletes.

See and disconnect connected apps

  1. 1Open Developers → MCP tokens. Every app you've approved appears there under its name, such as ChatGPT or Claude, alongside tokens you created yourself.
  2. 2Select Revoke to disconnect an app. It loses access on its very next request.
  3. 3To disconnect everything at once, turn off the Developers module in Settings → Modules.

Approving an app turns the Developers module on automatically, because connections live there.

Troubleshooting

  • The sign-in page says it can't connect the app: start connecting again from the app itself. The request may have expired or been copied incompletely.
  • Unauthorized (401): the token was revoked or has expired, or it's an API key (fpk_) instead of an MCP token (fpm_). Reconnect, or create a new token.
  • Forbidden (403): the Developers module is turned off. Turn it on in Settings → Modules.
  • Tools are missing: the connection is Read only, its token lacks that permission, or the related module is off.
  • Too many requests (429): each connection can make 120 requests a minute. Wait a moment and try again.
