Connect AI tools

Use FocusPilot with Codex

Connect FocusPilot to OpenAI's Codex in the terminal, your IDE or the ChatGPT desktop app.

3 minute read Updated October 4, 2026

One setup, three places

The Codex CLI, the Codex IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share the same MCP settings. Add FocusPilot once and it's available in all three.

Add FocusPilot from the terminal

The login command opens FocusPilot in your browser. Sign in, choose your access, and select Allow. Run codex mcp list, or /mcp inside Codex, to check the connection.

Add the server
codex mcp add focuspilot --url https://focuspilot.online/api/mcp
Sign in
codex mcp login focuspilot

Add FocusPilot in the ChatGPT desktop app or IDE extension

  1. 1Open Settings → MCP servers (in the IDE extension, open the gear menu, then MCP servers).
  2. 2Select Add server, choose Streamable HTTP, and paste the server address.
  3. 3Save, then select Restart.
  4. 4Select Authenticate, then sign in to FocusPilot and select Allow.

Use a token instead

Codex can send an MCP token from an environment variable. Give Codex the variable's name, not the token itself.

Terminal
export FOCUSPILOT_TOKEN=fpm_YOUR_TOKEN
codex mcp add focuspilot --url https://focuspilot.online/api/mcp --bearer-token-env-var FOCUSPILOT_TOKEN
~/.codex/config.toml
[mcp_servers.focuspilot]
url = "https://focuspilot.online/api/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "FOCUSPILOT_TOKEN"
